Old Stone Houses Are Disappearing in McPherson County

In McPherson Kansas old stone farm houses from pioneer days are vanishing from the rural scene as repairs fade. The sandstone homes, valued for cool summers and warm winters, remain few and some are ghost houses. One surviving dwelling by the Smoky Hill River, owned by Wendell Dahlsten, is used intermittently. Mrs Oswalt Johnson, born in a stone house nearby, recalls walls over 12 inches thick and the quarries a few miles north.
