Sheriff Tests Gas Additive To Cut Fuel Use
Franklin County Sheriff Rex Bowling launched a 90 day trial using gasoline mixed with an additive claimed to cut consumption by 8 to 10 percent. If successful, all county patrol cars may switch. The department burns 15,600 to 18,000 gallons yearly, risking higher costs amid looming federal revenue cuts and a strained budget. Ottawa officials doubt the additive’s effectiveness, noting possible savings may be offset by additive costs and emphasizing reduced engine idling instead.
