King Walks Off For Senators In Doubleheader Win
Jim King, a 32-year-old pinch hitter in his ninth major league season, delivered the decisive runs for Washington in a doubleheader sweep of Cleveland. He scored the winning run on a pop fly misplayed by Chuck Hinton in the eighth inning of the first game and added a bases-loaded single in the eighth of the second game to cap a 3-2 and 4-2 victory. The Senators also benefited from Harmon Killebrew’s timely power and solid relief pitching, while other AL results included Minnesota’s 3-2 ten-inning win over Chicago and Baltimore’s two-win day over New York.
