Few Supreme Court Justices Eligible Under New Proposal
Sen Smathers proposes that only judges with at least five years on a lower federal or state supreme court bench should serve on the Supreme Court. He cites historical justices who would not have qualified and argues for a judicial temperament, while noting current justices would be affected only for future appointments. The plan faces skepticism and potential political resistance.
