Big Mick Top OHS Athlete
When Ottawa High School graduate Mickey Reed leaves in spring the athletic department will miss his friendly presence and all around versatility. A three year basketball, two year football, and four year track letterman, he starred as the backfield’s top ground gainer in 1961, with 161 attempts for 20 points and a second team all league honor, while also ranking among the state’s top trackmen in the N E K L with strong discus and broad jump marks. Standing 6 4, he led basketball scorers and boards in the N E K L, earned all league honors, and earned athletic scholarships from Independence Junior College, Pittsburg State, and Ottawa University. He plans to decide soon where to attend and is expected to succeed wherever he goes.
