No Evidence of Sabotage in Dag Death
A U N commission of inquiry reported it could not determine the cause of Dag Hammarskjold’s death, saying it found no evidence to support or exclude sabotage, aircraft attack, mechanical failure, or human error. Hammarskjold died September 18 in a chartered plane crash near Ndola while on a Congo peace mission. The five-nation panel, including members from Nepal, Sierra Leone, Sweden, Yugoslavia, and Argentina, studied possibilities since December with hearings in Africa and Geneva.
