U S officials say Saudi Arabia and Jordan may soon join Egypt and Syria in a show of Arab unity, a factor behind Washington not blaming Nasser. They caution real unity among the four is unlikely, but Saudi and Jordanian leaders could align to shield U S interests and avoid undermining policy. The U S argues the Jordan crisis was fueled by international communism with the Soviet Union while projecting Hussein and Saud as protectors of independence.
