Whittles Wherever He Goes By Brandenburg's Whittling Hobby
J W Brandenburg, a state driver’s license examiner in Independence Kansas, keeps a toolkit for whittling two by six inch walnut blocks into carved horses and dogs. He began after spotting a wooden donkey a store and decided he could do better. His method starts with rough sketches, then sawing away excess before weeks of whittling sanding and varnishing yield smooth pieces. Brandenburg notes the hobby relaxes him despite sore fingers and callouses.
