Ground beef fat content and shrinkage explained
A guide notes regular ground beef commonly has up to 30 percent fat, lean around 23 percent, and extra lean about 15 percent. USDA fat limits apply only to federally or state inspected plants, 40 percent by weight, but many store-packaged products aren’t federally regulated.
