Kansas Senate approves 257 million university funding
The Kansas Senate approved a 257 million appropriation for the state university system for the next fiscal year, with a 27 to 13 vote. The measure reflects about 10 million in cuts from Gov. Jolham Carlin's budget. Also advanced were measures to ease premarital syphilis testing and to fund KPERS and the Department of Revenue. Additional bills included loans exemptions from usury limits and a 3.1 million supplemental appropriation. The Social Security cost of living increase for 1976 is expected to be about 11.2 percent, raising the average monthly check to around 371 dollars.
