Holliday Aims High After Historic Season

Matt Holliday exhales after batting practice at Hi Corbett Field as Rockies teammates praise his power. The left fielder surged to a 340 average with 36 homers and 137 RBIs last year, becoming the fifth player since 1949 to lead the NL in both batting average and RBIs. He insists he is not chasing last season, aiming instead to improve, while teammate Todd Helton notes the bar is high after a record-breaking 2006. Holliday is expected to move to cleanup, with Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe behind him, and Willy Taveras, Troy Tulowitzki, and Helton up front. He remains candid about potential for another peak year, with Rockies hitting coach Alan Cockrell expressing confidence in his ceiling.
