Program keeps CIS services in Ottawa despite cuts

CIS continues to serve Ottawa district middle and high school students despite funding reductions. Rachel Smith, Ottawa CIS area director, notes the program began in 2008 as an independent Ottawa affiliate and later merged with Communities in Schools Mid America. The model places a site coordinator to assess needs with school teams, while the program remains evidence based and aims to support about 10 percent of at risk students.
