A Wednesday report lists battering in the 300 block of West Wilson Street involving a 34 year old Olathe man, a theft on South Cedar Street with an Ottawa woman, and a hit and run vehicle collision on South Elm Street involving Stephanie McNeil of Garnett. Fire crews responded to a smoke alarm on Mulberry Street and a natural gas leak on Sycamore Street, with a structure fire reported in Woodson Street.

Lawrence Police Officer Follows Other in Ticket Fix Case

A second Lawrence police officer is suspended over allegations of fixing traffic tickets for a University of Kansas athletics department employee. The earlier officer resigned after a long friendship with the employee and helped fix tickets in exchange for basketball tickets. The ticket fixer is in federal prison. seven people were convicted in a broad ticket theft scheme involving Jayhawk basketball and football tickets.

Ex-mail carrier admits not delivering thousands of items

Dixie Bontrager a 77 year old former mail carrier from Whiting pleaded guilty in Topeka to federal mail theft admitting she failed to deliver thousands of pieces on her 115 mile northeast Kansas route. Prosecutors seek up to 250000 fine and five years in prison at June 11 sentencing though leniency is likely.
