Feasibility questioned for regional four-county jail plan
A regional jail to house Franklin, Miami, Linn and Anderson counties could cost 10 to 11 million dollars, said jail designer Larry Goldberg. He noted no U.S. region has floated a bond for such jail, while suggesting each county could instead expand or build separate facilities to meet growing inmate populations. Franklin and Miami counties already max out capacity, with Franklin County housing about 70 inmates but planning for 90 to 95. Franklin currently farms out 10 prisoners to Allen County Jail at 40 dollars per prisoner per day.

Sunday liquor sales move forward in Kansas Senate
A Kansas measure to authorize Sunday alcohol sales advanced from the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee and heads to the full Senate. It would permit liquor stores to operate noon to 8 p.m. Sundays and allow cereal malt beverages at the same hours in groceries and convenience stores. The bill aims to close a loophole that let cities adopt Sunday sales by local ordinance and mandates communities with Sunday sales to adopt updated rules.
