Unusual requests drive exports through USDA bulletin
A USDA bulletin, Export Briefs, connects buyers and U S exporters with odd inquiries such as watermelon seeds for England, nonalcoholic beer for UAE, and cow gallstones for Japan. Williams notes 3,700 requests from 107 countries last year, with about 25 percent resulting in follow up and $1,800 in seeds sold to England.

Vietnam Veterans Suffer More From Combat
A government study found nearly a quarter of heavy combat Vietnam veterans have faced criminal charges postwar. The five volume project shows higher rates of alcohol and drug issues and medical and psychological problems linked to combat, with black and minority veterans facing harsher schooling and job setbacks. The study, begun in 1973 and funded by grants and later by NIMH and the VA, surveyed 1,340 men in 10 cities, with 2.8 million Americans overall as veterans. It notes both hardships and resilience among veterans and lists proposed cuts to 91 veterans centers under a Reagan administration budget plan.
