Kansas lawmakers say a tax relief package could be agreed next week while a plan to overhaul higher education governance likely won’t pass this year. The House Taxation Committee backed a two thirds vote constitutional amendment on taxes after narrowing its scope. The main obstacle remains whether to include an earned income tax credit. The credit would target workers earning up to $25,000, depending on family size, as a refundable credit.

Trapped 5 year old found dead in Argentine well
The body of 5-year-old Cristian Quiroz was recovered after more than 33 hours trapped in a 59-foot abandoned well in San Nicolas. He had been covered in dirt and weeds and died en route to hospital. An autopsy would determine cause of death. His mother was with him when he fell.

Indiana man arrested in Vermont pipe bomb killing
An Indiana man, Chris Dean, 35, of Pierceton, was arrested after a pipe bomb killed 17-year-old Chris Marquis in Fair Haven following an Internet trade dispute over CB radio equipment. Dean faces federal charges for interstate transportation of explosives with intent to kill or injure and placing an explosive device on a plane. The bomb was delivered to Marquis’s house by UPS and Marquis’s mother was seriously injured.

Memorials to Village Manor Care Center activity fund. He was born October 21 1902 near Homewood to W C and Estella Johnson Fredricks. He worked as a mechanic for Ottawa Ford dealers over 30 years later at National Sign Co Ottawa. He was a member of 15th Street Church of Christ. Preceded by his wife Genevieve Andrews Fredricks 1996 and a brother Clifford.
