The Ottawa Kiwanis Club plans to fold after nearly a century, distributing $30,000 to seven local nonprofits including Communities in Schools of Ottawa and the Franklin County Cancer Foundation. The gifts come from the estate of Clyde Chub Bollweg and will be managed by Kiwanis Lawrence to support Ottawa groups aligned with Kiwanis goals.
Johnson County firearm examiner Jason Butell testified in Franklin County District Court that spent shells linked to a Winchester 1300 shotgun tied to Kyle Flack show microscopic scratches matching test shots fired at the lab. He said at least eight shells likely came from the same gun, based on projection marks.
Prosecutors described Thursday the discovery of toddler Lana Bailey's body during the Kyle Flack quadruple homicide trial. Flack, 30, has pleaded not guilty to 2013 shotgun slayings of four victims including Kaylie Smith Bailey, 21, and her 18 month old daughter Lana. He faces capital murder charges for Kaylie and Lana and premeditated first degree murder charges for Andrew Stout, 30, and Steven White, 31, plus firearm possession and sexual battery misdemeanor.
Ottawa Mayor Mike Skidmore introduces Tim Matthias as the new Ottawa fire chief at the Ottawa Fire Department. Matthias, from Pomona, has been assistant chief since 2014 with 26 years in the fire service, replacing retiring chief Jeff Carner who served nearly 17 years.
