Audit approved to study Kansas inmate population rise
In OPERA Kansas the Post Audit Committee authorized an audit to examine why the state’s inmate population is growing and whether the Department of Corrections uses community corrections to avoid reincarceration. Reps Kerr McKechnie and Weber pressed that parole violations, especially technical ones, should prompt evaluation before prison expansion. The audit will assess factors behind recidivism, and the DOC’s use of community programs as alternatives to incarceration.
