Barnes named Big 12 coach of the year again
Texas coach Rick Barnes, praised by players for his tough coaching yet backing off when needed, led the No. 6 Longhorns to a school record 26 regular season wins and a share of the Big 12 title. Durant left for the NBA after one season, yet Barnes earned AP coach of the year for the second straight time.

Johnson starten poor in early NASCAR season
Jimmie Johnson, a two time defending Cup champion, begins the year 13th in points after four races and 198 behind leader Kyle Busch. He and Hendrick Motorsports face challenges on the Car of Tomorrow on larger tracks, with crew chief Chad Knaus and the team aiming to rebound quickly.
