Fountain vandal returns to court
A 15 year old Ottawa boy who toppled Haley Park fountain last May had probation extended after admitting battery on another 15 year old on November 26. Magistrate Fromme ordered the extension to March 1994 and placed the youth in the Fourth Judicial District community corrections program in Ottawa. He must attend school, pursue counseling, and cover $15 in court costs plus $150 in lawyer fees, which may be paid via community service. The fountain incident sparked protests last May and the youth previously received criminal damage and intimidation charges, along with a public apology and 307 hours of community service in Ottawa.

New Pastor Joins June First Christian Church
Rev. Fred Schaeffer named new minister at June First Christian Church at 11th and South Cedar. He begins with a 10:30 a.m. service on June 14, replacing Rev. Don Richardson who moved to Shawnee last year. Interim minister Bob Plumlee prior guided the church. Schaeffer has a BS in business administration from Bethune-Cookman College and will earn a Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary this May. He has pastored in Greencastle Indiana and worked in radio in Indianapolis. He and wife Terry have two daughters, Melodie and Andrea.
