Kansas House weighs 27 percent flat tax plan

The Kansas House Taxation Committee examined a Democratic proposal for a 27 percent flat tax on federal liability, wiping out brackets. It aims to lower taxes for about 950,000 of roughly one million taxpayers, with adjustments for high earners and a possible 24 percent option for the top tier. The measure, dubbed Fit and Trim, would simplify taxes and address equity between single and married filers, but the panel did not act on it.
