Lane forced to close well raises city water costs
KDHE ordered the city to stop using its well as a primary drinking source effective March 1. The city must buy all water from Franklin County Rural Water District No. 6, costing an estimated 1,750 to 2,450 dollars monthly. Current bills stay the same for now as the council seeks options including treating the well, digging a new well, or purchasing all water. A March 29 special meeting will decide the next steps. Street names west of Kansas Avenue were relettered to align with the east side to improve 911 response.
