Missouri melodramatic run nets AP Big Eight coach honors
Missouri coach Norm Stewart won AP Big Eight coach of the year after guiding the Tigers to a 14-0 conference season. Senior Melvin Booker was the AP Big Eight player of the year, with freshman Kelly Thames named newcomer of the year. Thames shared the newcomer votes with Jacque Vaughn as a strong crop of Missouri standouts shaped a near-sweep of awards.
