Senate panel approves ethanol subsidy bill in Kansas
The Kansas Senate Agriculture Committee advanced a bill to extend state incentives for ethanol production. It would raise the subsidy from 4.5 to 5 cents per gallon for three years and add a 7.5 cent incentive for new or expanded plants, lasting seven years. Cap increases to 3.5 million if current program ends. Kansas has four plants producing about 33 million gallons annually. Industry advocates cite energy and farm benefits while urging further steps.
