Second oxygen generator fails aboard Mir space station
A second oxygen generator on the Russian space station Mir malfunctioned leaving three crew members with only about two months of supply. NASA and Russian flight controllers planned to use supplemental canisters and a Soyuz capsule for quick exit if needed while awaiting parts on a supply ship due April 6. Astronaut Jerry Linenger is two months into a four month stay as the fourth American on Mir.
