Wellsville High School basketball, guided by coach Bernie Smith, won seven games in 2004 05 after a winless prior season, upsetting Maranatha Academy in the first round before a 53 38 substate semifinal loss to Kansas City Christian. Erica Patton led Wellsville with 12 points, Lacey Boecker added 10, and Kimberly Hughes had seven in the third quarter as KC Christian advanced to the title game.
Osage City defeated Oskaloosa 53 to 40 as top seed in sub-state action. Osawatomie beat Anderson County 69 to 64, earning a final against Louisburg. Tonight in Wellsville Osage City meets Maranatha at 6 pm and KC Christian faces Wellsville at 7:30 pm with the winners meeting Saturday for the sub-state title.
