Franklin County 2004 tax appraisals rise for most properties
Franklin County property owners mostly saw higher 2004 appraisals as commissioners reviewed values for county lands. The courthouse square total topped 4.7 million while the Records and Research Center declined. The County Annex appraised value jumped to 1.85 million with an assessed 464000 for 2005, prompting a joking remark about appealing the assessment. The panel also covered sales tax allocations, dump days set for April 16 and 17, a township treasurer appointment, road maintenance changes, an emergency preparedness office proposal, and a roofers lien recovery of 301.92 plus costs.

Rural road dust control signups begin county wide
Starting Monday the county will take orders for road dust control from rural residents with signup through April 5. Charge is 1.25 per running foot with a 300-foot minimum. The program uses liquid magnesium chloride sprayed in two applications beginning in May to reduce dust, with blading and moisture management by county crews and landowner alerts for rough roads. Some roads may use water or a corn oil based additive experimental treatment. For details call the county public works department at 229-3550.
