Ottawa City Commission to pick fifth member and residency rules on agenda

Debris Clearing Under Fire Hazard Rule After Main Street Fire
City officials invoked an immediate hazard provision to hasten debris removal at the J C Penney site and nearby businesses on South Main. Killough Construction led private crews through the night to clear rubble while engineers assessed Helton's Hallmark for possible condemnation. A half million dollars in damages was reported, as Michael L Branson remained in fair condition after the fire. Ottawa Police said Branson was not yet questioned and faced possible connections to the blaze.
