Melvern Dam Inches Along Toward Completion
Melvern Dam construction progresses though winter. The dam is about 94 percent complete with riprap work ongoing and only a small amount of dirt remaining. Impoundment is delayed by minor and two major setbacks, with gates expected to close on the Marais des Cygnes River in April and a possible water holdback starting in August. Phase I road relocation nears finish with a bridge deck and surface work pending. Four recreation areas are under construction, one boat ramp completed in Sun Dance Park, another near completion at Arrowrock Park, with Turkey Point and Coeur de Alene also in progress. Additional parks are planned but not yet active.
