Darla Jean Jones, a Syracuse freshman, becomes Southwestern College's first Black candidate for the 1955 Moundbuilders queen in a student election sponsored by the yearbook. Four other candidates compete. the winner will be announced tomorrow.

Robert L. Smith, the only living quadruple amputee of the Korean War, began work as a tabulating machine operator for the Veterans Administration. He has completed an IBM course and will wire the panels that run the machine. He starts at 2750 dollars annually and will be treated like any other employee.
