Franklin County eyes inmate reduction plan
Franklin County considers reducing jail population with alternative programs. A committee could be formed soon to design options as building a new jail would take three to four years. Costs to house out-of-county inmates could rise from $40 to $50 or $60 daily, with about $400,000 likely this year. Sheriff Craig Davis notes growing pressure as a new bill on longer jail terms advances.
