Soviet Cosmonauts Die On Return From Space Flight
MOSCOW AP Three Soviet cosmonauts died today as their Soyuz 11 spacecraft returned from a record three week mission aboard the Salute space laboratory. Experts suggested the oxygen system failure may have occurred during reentry, with Tass reporting the cause under investigation. The deaths mark the second Soviet spaceflight disaster, following the 1967 crash of Soyuz 1 and the deaths of Komarov, Grissom, White, and Chaffee in earlier incidents. All three cosmonauts were married. Dobrovolsky and Patsayev each had two children, Volkov one son. Soyuz 11 lifted off June 6 at 7:55 am and linked with Salute on June 7 after a 17 4 ton dock.
