Stars and Stripes quilt to fly at Dietrich Cabin

Doris Heckman provided the photo for a Stars and Stripes quilt chosen for the Dietrich Cabin in City Park at Fifth and Main Streets to honor Independence Day. Deborah Barker of the Franklin County Historical Society arranged the project after viewing a public television program. Caring and Sharing Stitchers agreed to sew it under Chris Campbell’s request. The 34 star flag, reflecting Kansas as the 34th state, has the traditional 13 stripes and was presented to Barker in May. Participants Nancy Gillogly, Carol Bulmer, Doris Heckman, Delores Dyer, and LaWanda Gorton assisted Barker in holding the flag.
