Knee Injury Puts KC's Cowens On Shelf

Kansas City outfielder Al Cowens, runner-up last year for AL MVP, is sidelined through the All Star break with a first degree knee sprain after injuring his right knee sliding into second against the California Angels. Cowens hit .312 with 112 RBI last season and his absence, along with John Wathan's injury, leaves Whitey Herzog's Royals short on right handed power hitters as they seek a replacement via waivers. Meanwhile in the American Association, Oklahoma City beat the Wichita Aeros 14-7 ending the Aeros western division reign begun May 4, as Denver, Springfield, and Iowa also won.
