Leavenworth Co farmer named Outstanding Young Cooperator
Robin Leach of Linwood earned region three Outstanding Young Cooperator honors at the House of Douglas event. Since starting in 1963 he shifted from scrubs to registered Holsteins, milking 85 cows in a double four herd. He emphasizes breeding, uses semen from six states, and sells top bulls to studs. Leach aims to maintain herd size, improve efficiency, and support a flexible production base while farming 390 acres with 300 rented, leaning on government programs for 20 to 30 percent of land. He plans concrete stalls but not a larger herd, citing labor limits and cost.
