Fidel Castro at a midnight rally in Artemisa warned the United States to stop cutting Cuban sugar purchases or face the seizure of American investments in Cuba. He said for every pound cut from the quota, Cuba would take an American sugar mill and later repurpose sugar lands if no premium can be secured.
