Garden project in Wichita ends in failure
Jack Sheets proposed a community garden at the West Community Action Center in April to help poverty-stricken residents grow vegetables. He secured half an acre, persuaded businessmen to fund plowing and discing, bought 100 pounds of fertilizer, and lined up several families to plant. No one showed up, some cited distance or change of plans, and the half acre is now overgrown with weeds and an abandoned car remains there. Sheets still has the fertilizer.
