Federal sets 13 national road safety standards
Washington AP The federal government announces 13 national road safety standards states must meet over time to reduce highway deaths. Secretary Alan S Boyd outlined funding of 167 million dollars through June 30, 1968 with three quarters by population and one quarter for discretionary use. Penalties include withholding federal highway funds for noncompliance. The standards align with draft guidelines from February and stress periodic motor vehicle inspection as a key need.

Booze Hearing Reset A Week
TOPEKA AP Rehearing of a case involving seizure of records from a Wichita liquor dealer has been postponed at least one week. The case involves three counts against Alan B. Phares for credit sales delivery of liquor and giving a discount illegally on a case sale. Jerry Muth state liquor control director found no violations in the March hearing but said the matter may show a violation without referencing the seized records. Rehearing was set after a written opinion from Attorney General Robert Sonderholm that alleged violations of the Mqyor control act are matters of such public interest that the Kansas Supreme Court would probably not block the director from reopening and redetermining the question.
