Pratt Mammoth Dig Yields Rich Material for Instructors
Fort Hays State University researchers led by Greg Liggett gathered bones, photos, and data at Pratt Feeders where a Columbian mammoth was uncovered last October. Volunteers including Rita Liggett and Bill Randle helped dig, record, and map the quarry, planning spring and summer work to clean and prepare the bones for study.

Engineers to Inspect City Sewer Plant for Digester Lid
City utilities director Jim Bradley said two engineering firms will inspect the sewer plant this week to advise on removing a partly sunken 40 foot diameter digester lid. The 1951 steel and wood lid, once floated atop the basin, tilted after a hole appeared two weeks ago. A large crane will likely be needed to lift the damaged lid, and officials expect more details by Friday or early next week. The odor may be more noticeable without the lid, but no other discharges are reported.

FBI opens files in case against Leonard Peltier
The FBI is posting photographs documents and other evidence from the 1975 Pine Ridge shootout case on its web site as it opens files in the long running matter. Leonard Peltier, 55, is serving two life terms for the murders of Special Agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams.
