Ottawa Fourth of July Fireworks Budget Talks Continue
Ottawa officials heard proposals from Ottawa Main Street Association Prairie Paws Animal Shelter and Franklin County Development Council for 2014 funding as annual Fourth of July fireworks costs rise. Fireworks supervisor Carswell noted 2013 spending of 4800 dollars with a 15 percent early purchase discount and said insurance is included. He explained sponsors and private donations fund about half the cost while city support remains around 2300 dollars annually.

Fireworks rules vary city to city in Franklin County
Ottawa bans discharging fireworks except for the Fourth of July Forest Park display while Wellsville allows July 3 and 4 within city limits and Pomona permits 8am to 10pm July 3 through July 5. Richmond allows 8am to midnight July 1 through 4, and Williamsburg limits use to one’s own premises with 50 feet from buildings. Fire safety guidance stresses adult handling, water nearby, and avoiding shooting from cars. Franklin County has no burn ban, but cautions remain.
