Three plea deals inked in fatal 1969 York riot case
Three of nine men charged in a 1969 race riot death agreed to testify for the prosecution in York Pennsylvania. Rick Knouse Lutzinger and Gregory Neff waived hearings while Knouse pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy and faces up to 23 1/2 months. Knouse said Mayor Charlie Robertson told him to kill blacks. Robertson is accused of supplying ammunition to white gang members linked to Lillie Belle Allen’s death. Prosecutors say witnesses heard Robertson yell white power at a rally the night before the killing. The riots left a white officer dead and many injured or jailed.

Debate on patients' bill turns to employers' liability
In Washington Democrats and Republicans in the Senate shift the debate on a patients' bill of rights from patients suing to employer liability for denied care. Democrats oppose blanket immunity for employers involved in medical decisions, while Republicans warn liability could raise health insurance costs and cause some firms to drop coverage. Senator Don Nickles warns the measure may do more harm than good.
