Americans Bid On Nile Delta Reclamation Project
United States backed plan seeks to reclaim a 12 000 acre tract in the Nile Delta south of Port Said to feed about 500 000 Egyptians. The project ties to the Aswan Dam and would use regulated waters for irrigation. Three American firms FMC Utah Construction Morrison Knudson propose a $228 million package with two thirds funded locally and the rest from private or international sources. Europeans counter with a joint bid and Osman Osman also bids. If realized it would take six to seven years and settle about 31 000 families.
