New chief aims to coordinate county emergency operations
New emergency preparedness director Radcliffe says he will coordinate rather than run each department. He views the full-time role as necessary and plans to finish grants and 200 hours of statecertified training within two years. The department has about 55000 dollars in funding from bioterror and state grants, with grants from Blaine Finch upcoming.

Great Race rally emphasizes time per checkpoint in Ottawa
The Great Race tests drivers with hidden checkpoints and strict timing. Competitors use stopwatches and speedometers to keep to exact times, risking penalties for every second off. About 150 daily instructions shape turns and speeds while obstacles like trains delay groups. Rally Partners Inc. will award $10,000 to the town library with the best pit stop, and a Fox Sports Speed Channel program will air six weeks after the finish.
