Reagan vetoes emergency housing bill in Washington
President Reagan vetoed an $8.9 billion emergency spending bill that would subsidize housing for low and middle income buyers and scrap a $75 daily tax deduction for lawmakers. White House aide Larry Speakes announced the veto, the fifth of Reagan's term, with Congress eyeing a possible override before a July 12 recess.

Two Charged In Sniper Deaths in Tennessee
Columbia, Tenn. AP Two men William Carroll Kelley 21 and Phillip Wayne Kelley 19 both of Columbia were charged with three counts each of first degree murder and one count each of assault with intent to commit murder for a Wednesday evening sniper attack that killed three family members and wounded a fourth while they fished from a Duck River sandbar. They pleaded innocent before Judge William Fraser with a preliminary hearing scheduled for next Wednesday and were held without bond on the murder charges while bonds of 100000 were set on the assault charges.
