Hoisington Flood Relief Eases as Water Recedes
Water receded in Hoisington allowing about 100 families displaced by Blood Creek flooding to begin returning home. Sheriff Marks warned more rain could worsen conditions as crews, with ground transport and a helicopter from McConnell, aided residents. Major routes remained closed while nearby cities faced storm damages and ongoing weather threats.

Kansas crop service reports 20 percent of the 1981 wheat crop cut, ahead of last year and the five year average. Test weights under 60 pounds per bushel in fields cut, with 60 percent ripe statewide. Some wheat flattened by hail and rain in central regions. chinch bugs moving into corn and sorghum. Corn planting near finish, 75 percent of sorghum planted, soybeans 65 percent. Pasture and range good to excellent. surface moisture adequate except in southwest counties. Hog inventory June 1 at 1.94 million, down 5 percent from last year but up 14 percent from March.
