Shawnee A Team sweeps Ottawa in doubleheader rout
Shawnee A Team hammered Ottawa 6-0 in game one and held off a late Ottawa rally to win 7-6 in game two at Orlis Cox Field. Rob Morris tossed a near no hitter in the opener, while Morris returned to close the second game and finish Ottawa’s bid. Ottawa stranded nine runners and left the A-team at .500 for the season, while Shawnee applied timely hitting and solid defense to back two big lefthander efforts.

AAU Glory Doesn't Go Very Far
At the AAU National Track and Field Championships in Eugene Oregon the meet crowned upset winners while most of the U S team selected for overseas competition consisted of lesser known athletes. Don Quarrie dominated the sprints but cannot join the U S squad. Mark Enyeart and Stan Vinson were only of the few who opted to compete for the U S overseas. Others chased private European tours leaving the official squad light on stars.
