Farmers fight musk thistle in Reno County pastures

Reno County weed director Tracy Lasher notes about 320 acres treated for musk thistle, far less than the county's 186000 pasture acres. The weed spreads via seeds, cattle, hay, and unmowed pastures, threatening north east sand hills and Sumner Township. Enforcement may require aerial spraying and education for landowners.

Landmark feedlot case ends with 45000 dollar verdict

Sedgwick County Judge Gregory Waller ordered Cheney feedlot owner Phil Blocker to pay his neighbors 45000 dollars in punitive damages after a four day trial. The Twietmeyers had sought relief for runoff odors and wildlife harm from Blocker moving cattle closer to their home and releasing waste onto their property.
