A Greeley woman owns a Siamese cat that has adopted five baby skunks found after their mother was killed on a farm. The cats’ owner reports the skunks are growing, affectionate, and only faintly musky. She has consulted veterinarians about descenting but has found none willing to perform the procedure.
A reader letters column prompts apology demands for printing harsh views on adoption. The exchange includes claims that printed remarks by unwed mothers justify distress and urges continued emphasis on the idea that real parents are the ones who raised adopted children.
Mr. and Mrs. Olin Heffner celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a July 9 reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kansas State Bank basement in Overbrook. Schneider describes training programs and temporary detail opportunities to advance women from clerks to supervisors while noting broad career paths within the postal service and her own milestone as first woman to win the region’s Women’s Program Achievement Award.
