Ottawa region squads and college teams prepare a stretch of home games beginning this weekend. Fans can expect local venues to host multiple matchups, with teams aiming to capitalize on home court advantage and build momentum for upcoming schedules.
U.S. Senator Jerry Moran will visit Pomona on Friday for a listening tour at the Pomona Community Building from 10 30 to 11 30 a.m. to discuss critical state and national issues with area residents. A separate report notes a 24 hour Vyve Broadband outage in Ottawa and Garnett caused by an AT T fiber cut, with Vyve investigating and seeking restitution.
Lonnie King of Image Resource Group will donate the full structures for River Plaza legacy project in Ottawa, valued at 2.3 million of 4.3 million cost. Onward Ottawa announced at The Bottle House kickoff that more than 100 investors have pledged 3.6 million. Kansas Governor Jeff Coyler attended, signing legislation to add the Flint Hills Nature Trail to state parks as part of the event.
Gov. Jeff Colyer signed Senate Bill 321 designating the Flint Hills Nature Trail as a state park. The ceremony at The Bottle House in Ottawa included Robin Jennison and Onward Ottawa celebrations. The park will intersect the Prairie Spirit Rail Trail and the River Plaza at First and Walnut.
Ottawa new venue UnWined at Studio 111 offers a hybrid paint studio by day and bar by night featuring jazz, art and custom drinks. Owner Gary Vago and principal artist Julie Vago aim to fill a local void by providing a high class, dressy experience within Ottawa, avoiding trips to Kansas City or Lawrence for nightlife. The grand opening June 9 drew 58 friends and family as the venture seeks to carve a niche in town entertainment.
