Beadwork Adds Ottawa Native Beadwork to Buffalo Woman Statue
The Buffalo Woman statue base at the Franklin County Courthouse gains Ottawa Tribe beadwork in turquoise pink and green. Deborah Barker of the Franklin County Historical Society and The Herald designer JT Kent assisted by Dick Crooks to tile the base, reflecting Ottawa beadwork styles linked to a baldric. The statue, erected in 1989 for Ottawa’s 125th anniversary, gains renewed cultural recognition.
